Sense Technologies, Inc. announced today that its flagship product ScopeOut® has been purchased by the Army and Air Force Exchange Service and will be sold at approximately 22 major military bases and exchanges in the United States starting this fall.
Initially ScopeOut® will be sold in selected base exchanges that are primarily on the East Coast, with a strong likelihood of also being placed at two bases in Arizona, the product’s home state.
ScopeOut® is a sophisticated system of mirrors that are placed inside a vehicle’s back window to protect against blind lane changes in traffic and back-over incidents. A driver looks inside the rear-view mirror into the ScopeOut® mirror unit to see down the street, sidewalk or parking lot aisle in both directions. It also helps drivers avoid collisions with vehicles hidden from view while changing lanes on freeways.
In the United States, some 150 children are killed each year, and thousands more are injured, by vehicles unable to see children in their blind zones. There are two styles of ScopeOut® – one created for passenger cars and one designed for SUV-type vehicles. ScopeOut® mirrors install on the interior rear window, where they are hidden from outside view. The passenger car model includes a center-mounted single mirror unit, and the SUV-type model is composed of dual mirror units that are fitted on each side of the interior rear window. The mirrors lock into a removable bracket that is secured to the window using acrylic tape. The brackets are affixed with acrylic tape and leave no tell-tale signs. ScopeOut® will not interfere with a driver’s view out of the back window or damage rear window defroster wires.
ScopeOut® recently won the 2008 North American Award for Industry Innovation and Advancement of the Year in Automotive Safety Technologies. The award was bestowed upon ScopeOut® this month by Frost & Sullivan, which has 31 global offices with more than 1,700 industry consultants, market research analysts, technology analysts and economists.
