TIPA Honors Sigma’s DSLR Art Lens

Sigma Corporation of America, a leading researcher, developer, manufacturer and service provider of some of the world's most impressive lines of lenses, cameras and flashes, is pleased to announce that the Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) has honored Sigma’s 17-70 F2.8-4 DC MACRO OS HSM Contemporary and 35 F1.4 DG HSM Art lenses with its Best Entry Level DSLR Lens and Best Expert DSLR Lens awards, respectively.

Each year, TIPA editors vote for the best photography and imaging products introduced to the market during the past year. According to TIPA, the editors consider the use of leading-edge technology, design and ergonomics, ease-of-use and the price/performance ratio while making their decisions.

“We’re constantly working to improve and expand our product lineup, and to have an organization like TIPA recognize the quality of these lenses truly validates our goal of creating products that will inspire photographers of all levels,” said Mark Amir-Hamzeh, president of Sigma Corporation of America.

The 17-70 F2.8-4 DC MACRO OS HSM lens is the first in Sigma’s new Contemporary lineup, and is a large aperture standard zoom lens for APS-C sized sensor cameras. The lens is compact and offers macro capability in a very versatile focal length. The 17-70mm F2.8-4 is equipped with a Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) for quiet, accurate and fast autofocusing, as well as an Optical Stabilizer (OS) to compensate for camera shake. Constructed of the new TSC Thermally Stable Composite (TSC) material, this lens was built for increased durability. The 17-70mm F2.8-4 Macro DC HSM OS is compatible with the Sigma USB dock and Optimization Pro software for an increased level of customization and updating, enabling photographers to adjust and fine tune focusing parameters.

As part of Sigma’s Global Vision Art line, the 35 F1.4 DG HSM lens provides photographers with full creative power and freedom through cutting edge technology. Designed for full frame cameras, but also compatible with APS-C sensors, the 35mm is equipped with a floating internal focusing system, HSM, SLD and FLD Glass elements. The SLD glass elements along with the FLD glass elements, which are equal to fluorite, help correct both axial and chromatic aberration. The large 1.4 aperture make it ideal in low light and the lens is also compatible with the Sigma USB dock and Optimization Pro software.

Both lenses are currently available in Sigma, Nikon and Canon mounts. The 35mm F1.4 DG HSM is now available for the street price of $899; the 17-70mm F2.8-4 DC MACRO OS HSM is available for the street price of $499.
