EXFO Adds iOLM Technology to its FTB Series OTDR Modules

EXFO declared that its innovative FTB series OTDR modules have been integrated with revolutionary iOLM technology.

With initial target within FTTH/PON fiber test environment, iOLM technology can be used for fiber or cable testing applications to extensive common architectures like CWDM, access, point-to-point, metro, FTTA/DAS, and long-haul networks. With this innovative iOLM on their OTDRs, network operators can have seamless network testing cycles without any complex human errors and OTDR trace interpretation.

Based on automated multipulse acquisition approach and advanced algorithms, the iOLM is a software application based on OTDR providing in depth information about all the elements existing on the link, in a single button operation. It ensures simplicity as well as maximum intelligence for link characterization on an expert-level. The EXFO proprietary iOLM, powered by Link-Aware technology, manages the seating on its own of all test parameters. Thus, technicians can perform without being trained for any skill level.

The iOLM application is available on the FTB-7300 and FTB-7400 OTDRs. EXFO's FTB Ecosystem platforms like the popular FTB-200 Compact Platform can accommodate the integration of iOLM with other sophisticated test functionalities such as Ethernet, CD, PMD, WDM-Aware, SONET/SDH, EtherSAM and more. Since its debut, EXFO's iOLM has gained wide acceptance within the market. It has been deployed in over 60 countries globally in addition to being field tested with key operators. EXFO anticipates developing more targeted features for the iOLM to cater to the requirements of several customers in multiple applications.

EXFO's iOLM technology has been integrated within the handheld FTB-720 LAN/WAN Access OTDR and FTB-730 FTTx/PON MDU OTDR.
