IGNIS Exhibits High-Uniform AMOLED Display at 2011 SID Display Week

IGNIS Innovation has demonstrated a 3.47-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 320x480p at the 2011 SID Display Week conducted from 16 to 20 May 2011 in Los Angeles.

RiTdisplay is the producer of the display that uses the patented AdMo compensation technology of IGNIS for better uniformity and stability. The display is suitable for cell phones and other handy products that demand the performance qualities of an AMOLED display, including least power, superior contrast, rich colors and bright image.

Expensive polysilicon backplanes had been used for the production of all types of AMOLED displays in the past. However, AMOLED displays can also be produced with amorphous silicon as it is utilized in the production of virtually all of the LCD displays. On comparison with polysilicon, amorphous silicon is cheaper and has superior uniformity. It accounts for 95% of the global production capacity for displays.

Earlier, because of their stability issues, amorphous silicon backplanes were not used for the production of OLED. However, IGNIS’ AdMo compensation technology has tackled the stability issues, resulting in the release of the AMOLED display from RiTdisplay.

The President and Chief Executive Officer at IGNIS Innovation, Paul Arsenault, stated that the new AMOLED display matches the performance of polysilicon AMOLED. It also features the new all-in-one driver chip of IGNIS for AMOLED made from amorphous silicon, he added. This paves the way for RiTdisplay and other producers to manufacture advanced AMOLED displays by utilizing current amorphous silicon devices, which are now utilized for the production of LCD displays, he continued. It is the starting point for the mass production of less expensive AMOLED displays, he concluded.
