Gentex Corporation based in Zeeland, Michigan has announced that the Nissan X-Trail, a crossover SUV, will feature Gentex manufactured auto-dimming rearview mirrors with the Rear Camera Display (RCD).
The RCD mirror will be offered as a standard or optional equipment with the X-Trail in Europe.
The Senior Vice President of Gentex, Enoch Jen stated that the X-Trail is Nissan’s first factory-installed vehicle to offer the RCD mirror. The graphic overlay lines coupled with the RCD mirrors will guide drivers to assess the vehicle’s distance from any object or obstacle.
A liquid crystal display (LCD) in the RCD mirror works along with a rear-mounted video camera to provide a direct rear view while reversing the vehicle. In the reverse mode, a display appears through the mirror’s auto-dimming reflective surface. When the gear shifts to any other mode, the display disappears.
