Cynosure Acquires Eleme Medical’s Non-Invasive Body Shaping Laser System

Cynosure, developer and supplier of aesthetic treatment systems, has purchased the entire assets of Eleme Medical, a company that provides a non-invasive body shaping system called the SmoothShapes XV system.

As per the conditions of the acquisition, Cynosure spent $2.47 million to acquire Eleme Medical assets that comprise intellectual property licensing rights related to the SmoothShapes technology. The SmoothShapes XV system, which temporarily reduces cellulite, will be distributed by Cynosure.

The SmoothShapes XV system cures cellulite using a patented process termed as Photomology. The technique couples light energy and laser with mechanical treatment such as massage and vacuum to give a smoother and tighter look to the skin. The system has been cleared by FDA for trading in the US and has received the CE mark for distribution in the European market. The system is also distributed for circumferential reduction outside the US.

The SmoothShapes XV system was launched in the market in April 2010 and has a laser power that is 50% higher than the first-generation systems to offer faster and more reproducible treatment. The system utilizes numerous wavelengths to promote three-fold quicker heat deposition in the fat cell than the previous models, and sustains high-level temperatures at the treatment area. The system also improves the clinical reliability among treatment providers.
