Oclaro Introduces Laser Diodes for DPSS and Medical Applications

Oclaro, specialist in laser solutions and optical communications, has launched a new series of laser diodes that offer optimum performance and efficiency.

The laser diode integrates the company’s packaging technology with the laser diode technology. The new series of laser diodes comprises the Prosario Series and the collimated Bar Series.

The laser diode series is small in size and offers integrators and end-users a high-level of performance with enhanced power and efficient thermal management. The high-powered laser diodes help reduce expenditures and offer greater operating efficiencies through test production capabilities and more plant utilization and scale economies in Asia. The company’s customer base continues to expand as producers are using lasers for advanced applications.

Oclaro's new series of 80 W 50% FF bars and 60 W 27% FF (Fill Factor) bars are designed for Continuous Wave process on a conductive heat sink. The series provides high power and brightness on an CS-type assembly that is completely compatible with earlier products. The 80 W bars are suitable for laser pumping applications, while 60 W bars are ideal for fiber coupling and beam shaping applications.

The laser diode series is the first Oclaro E2 facet passivated bars to be integrated in the fiber coupled Prosario series and the collimated bar series. This integration enhances efficiency, output power and durability of the laser. The Oclaro E2 mirror passivation procedure protects the bar’s front facet against optical mirror damage. The telecom grade Au-Sn (gold-tin) hard soldering process makes the laser diode ideal for defense and industrial uses in hard-pulse and Continuous Wave process modes.
