Avago Exhibits Parallel Optic Interconnect Modules at SC10 Expo

Avago Technologies, provider of analog interface components, has introduced a new high-density, high-bandwidth optic system for short-range communication and data interconnect applications. The company unveiled the solution at the Super Computing 2010 (SC10) conference.

The MiniPOD parallel optics receiver and transmitter modules support maximum line rates of 10 Gbps for a maximum bandwidth of 120 Gbps. The modules have a pluggable electrical connection and a removable, cost-efficient fiber cable connection that offer versatile cable management during deployment, which help in reducing cost and streamlining the design for switching applications.

The transmitter and receiver modules integrate laser driver and receiver IC technology, PIN array technology, and an 850 nm vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) technology. The integrated technologies offer sturdy optical and electrical performance at high data rates.

According to Avago, individual receiver and transmitter modules offer design versatility and decreases the solution expenses for the optical interconnect. The company added that by including programmable de-emphasis and equalization into the units’ 22x18.5 mm form factor enable system designers to optimize the dense board layouts with enhanced signal integrity.

The company displayed the high-density board layouts by utilizing the MiniPOD and MicroPOD technology at the SC10 Expo.
