Optelian Introduces New Optical Network Cards for Network Monitoring

Optical transport system manufacturer, Optelian, has introduced two new network cards, the OCM-40 and the RDM-2x1 for network monitoring and ROADM (Reconfigurable Optical Add Drop Multiplexing) applications.

The RDM-2x1 System Network Card

The OCMs (Optical Channel Monitors) monitor and report the level of optical power in the DWDM channels. The OCMs are utilized for optical power balancing, fault localization and remote performance monitoring applications. Installation of the Optical Channel Monitors on ROADM and DWDM systems removes the necessity of dispatching technicians with optical spectrum analyzers.

The OCM-40 includes two monitor inputs that monitor west and east directions simultaneously. The OCM has a rapid acquisition time of less than 200 ms for a full spectral scan of the two ports. The Optical Channel Monitors offer greater accuracy over temperature and do not require user calibration.

The RDM-2x1 offers remote per-channel power equalization and 40 channels at 100 GHz spacing. Unique optical specifications and a dynamic range of less than 15 dB enable RDM-cascading for all-optical transmission less than 1000 km.

Optelian’s Sales Vice President, Dave Mills, stated that the OCM-40 and the RDM-2x1 are important for optical networks, and these cards, which offer similar advantages like the LightGAIN systems, provide easy deployment, reliable operation and low power consumption to network operators.
