Quantum Dot (QD) diode laser-provider, Innolume, has commenced sampling the new pump laser, the LD-12xx-series laser platform. It is ideal for use as pump source in the O-band Raman amplification and is devised using the Quantum Dot epitaxial technology of Innolume.

The LD-12xx-series delivers a 300 mW single mode output at 1100 mA and is centered at 1260nm or 1240nm. The 14-pin butterfly-packaged laser is equipped with a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) and a polarization maintaining fiber (PMF) for realizing high steady output spectrum and power.
PON (Passive Optical Network) technologies play a pivotal role in meeting the growing demand for services that require high bandwidth. The currently used G.984.2 Amd1 GPON standard, which has a deficit budget of 28 dB, limits, 1:32 split deployments of GPON to about a 20 km reach.
Innolume’s Business Development Vice President, Guido Vogel, stated that the use of the distributed Raman-amplified GPON technology, which is based on their LD-12xx- lasers series, enables network operators to save on OPEX and CAPEX and to expand the network reach. The amplifier unit’s installation at the Central Office minimizes the maintenance costs as compared to the powered extender boxes used in the field.
