APX Scientific Instruments Inc.
The primary focus of the company is the manufacture of vacuum coating systems, and to support existing customers with new innovations, upgrades, and maintenance of existing APX systems or retrofitting older systems made by APX or other suppliers. Applications of deposition techniques include: computer chips; superconductors; optical coatings; hard coatings; acoustic detectors; solder contacts; radiation detectors for satellites, etc. The Microlayer deposition system features multilayered computer controlled deposition, and has been made in various sizes with vacuum chambers up to approximately 1.25 meters square for 0.5 meter samples. Deposition techniques include: MBE, e beam evaporation, sputtering, plasma enhanced deposition, ion beam assist, etc. Vacuum pressures have ranged from conventional high vacuum, to pressures less than 5 x 10-11 Torr non hydrogen. Systems can and are used for routine industrial production, basic research, and product development such as tunnel junctions. In addition, APX has developed high temperature heaters, special vacuum seals, sputter guns, rotary stages, RF coupled plasma cleaning, and other devices.
