In 1969, Maxtek`s Cleve Hildebrand invented the worlds first all Digital Thin Film Deposition Controller while Vice President and Chief Engineer at Kronos, a company which he helped found. Kronos merged with the Granville Phillips Co. and quickly became the leader in QCM Thin Film monitoring and control equipment before being acquired by Veeco.
Maxtek, Inc. was founded in 1975 by Cleve Hildebrand and Dr. Richard Strayer, two of the original founders of Kronos. It was initially set up as a development company with the philosophy to develop products and retain manufacturing.
