Discovery Semiconductors Announces Highly Linear Photodiodes DSC100S for RF-over-Fiber Applications

Discovery Semiconductors, Inc. has introduced its Highly Linear Photodiodes DSC100S for RF-over-Fiber applications covering a frequency range of DC - 6 GHz. These photodiodes have a nominal third-order output intercept point (OIP3) of >45 dBm and second order output intercept point (OIP2) of >55 dBm for DC photocurrents in excess of 30 mA. The development effort for these photodiodes was partially funded by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). These photodiodes can work at both 1310 nm as well as 1550 nm wavelengths.

Taylor Hobson Launches New Form Talysurf PGI 2540 to Help Make High Quality Ultra Precision Lenses

The new Form Talysurf PGI 2540 takes combined form and surface finish measurement systems to a new level, for the first time offering a single instrument that can measure form with up to 25mm vertical range and surface finish down to 0.2 nanometer resolution. The system is focussed on delivering the metrology required to enable the optics sector to produce higher quality ultra precision lenses used in today's high volume markets like TV projectors, digital cameras and mobile phone cameras. The PGI 2540 is able to measure the most complex rotationally symmetric lenses and automatically calculate aspheric coefficients and errors from the design data.

Outlook Report on RF Optical Components for Cable TV

Over the forecast period (2009-14), investment in HFC networks will recover from recession-induced caution but will remain muted as MSOs continue to focus on other technologies such as DOCSIS 3.0 to deliver increased broadband speeds. New upstream applications have not emerged. One next-gen architecture -- RFoG (radio frequency over glass) -- bears watching as it bridges cable and PON standards.

Quarterly Research Report on Optical Disk Drive Industry in Taiwan

This research report presents shipment volume and value forecast and recent quarter review of the Taiwanese optical disk drive industry. The report includes optical disk drive shipment volume, value, ASP, manufacturer volume ranking, and product mix analysis, as well as breakdowns by price trend, shipment destination, production location, and business type. The content of this report is based on primary data obtained through interviews with optical disk drive makers. The report finds that the optical disk drive shipments in the first half of 2009 were affected by declines in mainstream PC shipments. The inventory replenishment in anticipation of peak-season demand in the second half of 2009, along with sufficient pick-up head supply, were expected to help the industry's shipment volume and value achieve sequential growth in the third quarter of 2009. It is anticipated, however, the industry's third-quarter sequential growth will not continue into the fourth quarter of 2009.
