Newport Demonstrates New Fiber Lasers at the Laser 2007

Newport Corporation announced today that the company will be demonstrating its new single mode 100 and 200 watt continuous wave (CW) fiber lasers at the LASER 2007 World of Photonics show being held June 18-20 in Munich, Germany.

These lasers are based on the company's innovative fiber laser platform and are targeted at a wide range of industrial, materials processing and graphics applications.

These new fiber lasers represent the latest developments from Newport's Fiber Laser Business Group. The team's charter is to leverage the company's more than 45 years of laser development experience and its expertise in diode lasers, fiber coupling, and optics to create advanced fiber lasers. As one of the industry's only vertically integrated photonic solutions providers, the company is uniquely positioned to provide state of the art products and services to its industrial customers.

"We are very excited to introduce our new high-power fiber laser platform, which significantly enhances our laser product portfolio and enables us to better address the needs of our customers in the growing industrial manufacturing market," said Wolfgang Gries, Senior Director of Newport's Fiber Laser Business Group. "Our new fiber lasers offer unmatched ease-of-integration, an intelligent, user-friendly interface and predefined application features."

Gries continued, "These new fiber lasers are ideal for challenging high-precision industrial applications, such as laser cutting of metal and non-metal materials, laser spot and seam welding of thin metal, and bonding and welding of plastics, that are critical to the manufacturing of a wide range of precision products. In addition, they offer unique advantages in reprographics and printing applications, as well as in selective metal sintering for functional prototypes or small production runs as well as for tool and die molds. We also believe that these new lasers are ideal for photovoltaic manufacturing applications including solar cell singulation, isolation, scribing, and structuring."

Gries concluded, "Our Fiber Laser Business Group has a strong focus on developing fiber laser solutions for industrial applications. We believe that this new fiber laser platform represents a paradigm shift for many industrial applications that have previously been served by conventional lamp-pumped and diode-pumped solid state (DPSS) technologies because it offers inherent advantages in cost and performance efficiency, power scalability, reliability and beam quality for many applications."
