Cree Releases New XP-E2 LEDs with SC3 Technology

Cree, an innovator of semiconductor and LED lighting products for power and wireless applications, released the latest XLamp XP-E2 LEDs using SC3 Technology. In comparison to Cree’s original XP-E LEDs, the XP-E2 LEDs can deliver increased lumen output per watt and reduce the existing system costs.

Cree XLamp XP-E2 LEDs are available with CRI values of 70, 80, 85 and 90, and with color temperatures in the range of 2700K to 7000K. The SC3 Technology used in these LEDs features a latest packing design and exhibits enhancements in LED phosphor and chip architecture. The company has used its advanced silicon carbide technology to build the SC3 Technology.

The XP-E2 LEDs, with the help of the SC3 Technology, have the capacity to deliver a maximum of 128 lm/W at 85°C and 350 mA. In case of cool white light, with a color temperature of 6000K, the XP-E2 LEDs can deliver 143 lm/W at 25°C and 350 mA. These new LEDs are of the same size as the original XP-E designs (3.45x3.45 mm). The XP-E2 LEDs can be used in most of the high-lumen applications, such as lamp and portable retrofits, and outdoor and indoor lighting applications. These LEDs are also optically compatible with XP-G, XP-E and all other XP LED designs.

Terralux’s Vice President of Marketing, Erik Milz, said that their main concentration for their design process was on the price to performance ratio. He also said that since most of their products were based on Cree’s XP-E LEDs, the latest XP-E2 LEDs will help to upgrade their product performance by speeding up time-to-market and reducing design costs.
