GSI Group, a supplier of laser scanning devices, laser-based solutions, and precision motion and optical control technologies, declared that its continuum laser business has achieved a $4.8 M contract that entails delivering its 400J amplifier section for the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS).
This contract, followed by supplying 400J amplifier will establish the Apollon high energy laser program devised by the Institut de la Lumiere Extreme (ILE). The development of Apollon is the first 10 PW femtosecond pulsed output Sapphire laser system, globally.
The contract has been presented following a four-year program that was partly sponsored by the French Government. The program included creating a high energy, compact laser pump module functioning at typical repetition rates having 20x speed compared to the repetition rate of other common high energy laser glass pump modules.
This program was achieved owing to the combined efforts of Laboratory of Laser Energetics, the Continuum team of GSI, and National Energetics. Based in Austin Texas, National Energetics has been established by professionals in chirped pulse amplification (CPA) technology. NY- based Laboratory for Laser Energetics (LLE) of the University of Rochester serves as an exceptional platform for education and research in science and technology.
According to the CEO of GSI Group, John A. Roush, the program award will promote the company’s reputation as a worldwide pioneer in supplying comprehensive amount of high power, scientific laser systems. In addition, it also enables the company to establish future potentials on related programs.
