The U.S. Department of Energy has awarded $4 million for Veeco Instruments, in order to support solid-state lighting projects.
The company has obtained the funding for a project, which is aimed at lessening the expenses and enhancing the efficiency and brightness of LEDs by using deposition technologies, substrates, and materials. Kyma Technologies, a supplier of semiconductor materials will supply materials to Veeco for this project.
Energy Secretary Steven Chu recently announced approximately $15 million to assist eight R&D projects that will enhance the deployment of solid state lighting technologies such as organic LEDs and LEDs. The selected projects are focused on developing new products, for enhancing core R&D goals and widen the national market to make the U.S competitive.
Veeco’s Executive VP, Mr. Robert Oates stated that the company is pleased to receive the funding to enhance the efficiency and lessen the expense of LEDs. He added that the company’s efforts have been focused on significantly lessening the expense of LEDs.
Kyma’s CEO, Dr. Keith Evans mentioned that the company is focused on developing crystalline materials that allow energy efficient lighting applications and management of electric power.
