Xerox to Design Print Environment with Printers, Copiers for UBC

Xerox Canada Inc. today announced a $40 million enterprise print services (EPS) partnership with Xerox and the University of British Columbia (UBC) to save the university $8 million over six years with better managed document and print services across campus.

The EPS strategy will help UBC staff, students, and faculty to research, teach and learn more effectively through efficient use of technology. UBC also anticipates that efficiency improvements will lead to reduced energy consumption and carbon footprint emissions which is integral to the university's sustainability strategy.

"We chose Xerox because of its customer service leadership, proven experience, ability to drive cost savings, environmental benefits and consistent processes while creating the platform for document management," says Pierre Ouillet, UBC vice president, Finance, Resources and Operations.

"The EPS partnership agreement will mean easier, better and less expensive printing and copying of documents," said Ouillet. "It involves nearly every aspect of the document lifecycle including printing, copying, scanning, faxing, design and delivery of print materials as well as electronic storage and retrieval. The move means printing and document management campus-wide will be consistent, affordable and reliable."

"In our experience, higher learning institutions want to find solutions that are operationally efficient and can meet the demands of students, staff and faculty but be environmentally responsible," says Jim Muzyka, vice president, Xerox Global Services Canada. "UBC needed more than just a vendor. They wanted a partner who could work with them to meet all the requirements of their various stakeholders."

Xerox will help participating UBC departments and faculties revamp technology, systems and processes related to documents. Using a Lean Six Sigma-based approach, Xerox will design a print environment with the appropriate number of output devices, like printers, fax machines, copiers and scanners, to help students and staff work more efficiently. Xerox will also develop a near site document production facility for high volume print requirements.

Xerox was positioned by Gartner, Inc., in the Leaders Quadrant in the "Magic Quadrant for Managed Print Services Worldwide" for 2009, and the company was named MPS market leader in Quocirca's 2009 European MPS report.
